The young of four-legged animals can quickly find their balance and stand on their feet, whereas a human infant takes about 10 to 12 months to learn to stand on two legs.

Likewise, while a four-wheeled vehicle has no balance issues, riding a two-wheeled vehicle requires constant effort to maintain balance.

One of the most exciting experiences in life is learning to ride a bicycle. Nowadays, bicycles often come with training wheels attached to either side of the rear wheel, giving the rider stability and confidence.

But in the days before training wheels, it was usually a father, an elder brother, or a friend who ran alongside the bicycle, helping the learner. They would stay beside the rider until he or she learned to balance and move forward independently.

As they ran alongside, they would usually repeat three instructions:

"Always keep your eyes fixed on the road ahead..."

...To maintain focus and a clear sense of direction.

"Don't lean too far to the left or to the right. Sit upright..."

...To maintain proper balance.

"Look, I'm always right here with you..."

...To instill confidence and courage.

These three principles help a person learn to ride a bicycle more quickly.

These same principles are deeply relevant to the Christian journey. Unlike ordinary earthly journeys, Scripture teaches us what we must pay attention to in this spiritual race.

1. Keep your eyes fixed on the Champion..!

Although we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses, the writer of Hebrews urges us to fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). The reason is simple: every one of those witnesses had their own shortcomings.

Just as a person learning to ride a bicycle is likely to lose balance and fall if distracted by everything around them, many who have fallen away from the faith blame hardships, people, or organizations. Had they kept their eyes on the Author of their faith, they would not have stumbled.

Peter sank the moment his eyes shifted away from Jesus. Though we have heard that story countless times, many still lose their footing because their focus has wandered.

2. Do not lean to the left or to the right..!!

As the Israelites journeyed through the wilderness, Moses repeatedly reminded them not to turn aside to the right or to the left from God's commandments (Deuteronomy 5:32).

Likewise, Paul warns the New Testament church not to be tossed about by every wind of doctrine (Ephesians 4:14).

Many are being swayed by new teachings, while some leaders fail to build strong biblical defenses against false doctrines. This is a serious concern.

3. "I am with you..!!!"

What greater assurance could there be than Christ's promise:

"Surely I am with you always , to the very end of the age. "

He walked alongside those who, discouraged and full of questions, were on the road to Emmaus. He also revealed glorious visions of the future to John, who had been exiled on Patmos, uncertain about what tomorrow would bring. These events testify to the certainty of His promise to remain with His people.

Reflect on this...

🚦A person learning to ride a bicycle only needs to keep looking toward the destination until balance is achieved. But in the spiritual journey, unless we keep our eyes fixed on Christ until the very end, we are always in danger of falling.

Many believers today resemble experienced cyclists who have become distracted by the many sights around them. Others, like Peter, lose their focus amid the storms and strong winds of life's difficult circumstances.

🚦Once a cyclist has mastered balance, a slight lean to either side may not cause a fall. But in the Christian life, even a small compromise can lead to spiritual danger. That is why the apostle Paul warns:

"Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall." (1 Corinthians 10:12)

🚦A cyclist only needs someone to run beside them until they learn to balance. But in the spiritual journey, balance alone is not enough. Since Satan continually seeks to overthrow and destroy us, we need God's presence with us 24×7.

Therefore, as Paul says, what we need is not the overconfidence of thinking that we have already attained everything, but the sincere determination to press on vigorously toward the goal until the very end.
