Thy Will...

My Will...

“Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”

(Matthew 6:10)

After singing a song during family prayer, the wife said to her husband:

“Honestly, I am afraid to sing the line, ‘If it is the Father’s will to break me, let His will be fulfilled completely in me…’”

“Then what about the part of the Lord’s Prayer that says, ‘Your will be done’?”

“That also makes me a little uncomfortable. But isn’t it even more cruel to willingly accept being broken?”

“All right, let me ask you a question. Suppose our only son tells you, ‘Mummy, I will do whatever you want me to do.’ Would you think, ‘What a wonderful opportunity! Now I can make him do all the housework, and occasionally give him a good beating too’?”

“What are you saying? Would I ever treat our precious boy so cruelly? When he says, ‘I will obey Mummy,’ wouldn’t I love him even more?”

“Then you must firmly believe that our heavenly Father, who does not forget us even when a mother might forget her child, is the same way.”

“But how can you be so sure that God always works that way?”

“The God I have seen in His Word...

The God whose presence has filled me in the prayer room...

The God who has led me through all my yesterdays...

I know that God well enough to be certain.”

“Then what about those who say we should not sing songs like these—the prosperity preachers?”

“The answer is very simple. They do not know the God revealed in the Scripture!”

“Dear, I still have another question. If our heavenly Father is loving, then why does He allow suffering?”

“Let’s use our son as an example again. Do you remember when we first started teaching him to play the violin? When his little fingers gripped the strings and began to hurt, he cried. Seeing those tiny fingers, you asked me, ‘What kind of a cruel man are you?’ and demanded that we stop the violin lessons.”

“But then… when seeing a child suffering, when seeing blood on those tiny fingers, who could bear it?”

“Do you think I didn’t feel the pain?

If I had shown him too much sympathy, he would have stopped learning. I had seen the ability in him, and I had begun this process because I knew what he was capable of. I didn’t want that plan to fail.”

“That’s true. Whenever I see him playing the violin beautifully now, I often think... If you had listened to what I was saying back then and let him quit, he would never have become this skilled.”

“In the same way, God, who knows the abilities and talents within us, will do many things to shape us according to His will.

He will knead the clay thoroughly to make it a vessel of honor. He will take it through the fire...

To make a weapon, He will hammer and flatten the iron. He will take it through fire and water, and then grind and polish it...

To make it fruitful, He will prune and cleanse plant. He will remove the lushness of the leaves...

Dear ones,

The thoughts and ways our heavenly Father has for us are higher and more excellent than our own thoughts and ways (Isaiah 55:9). Let us surrender ourselves completely to the Father’s will.
